Traditional Rice Cooking and Tasting at Iwakubi Shoryu Terraced Rice Fields
The Iwakubi Shoryu Terraced Rice Fields were registered as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System (GIAHS) in 2011 by the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). “Shoryu” means “climbing dragon,” and this name reflects the shape of the tiered paddies in the village of Iwakubi that ascend the steep hills towards the sky. Visit these rice fields during EC to enjoy spectacular views, make a bowl out of bamboo, and taste rice grown in this eco-friendly setting that has been cooked using a traditional method.
