Harigoma & Noroma Puppet Performances
Noroma Puppets have entertained the masses for many years with their humorous stories. Originally a form of farce offering comic relief between the acts of Sekkyo Puppet performances, Noroma Puppets are now designated as one of Japan’s important intangible folk culture assets alongside Sekkyo and Bunya Puppets. The Niibo area on Sado Island has a long, rich history of puppet theater. This summer there will be six weekend performances featuring two distinct styles: Harigoma and Noroma Puppets. Usually these performances rove from door to door, so this is a rare chance to see two styles in one place.
